MESSAGE FROM IBIZA FOODBANK FOUNDER
As a foreigner who has lived in Ibiza for 17 years, I feel it’s my duty to try and help. My family has run a successful business here and our network amongst the Spanish community is extensive. The island has given so much to the many foreigners who live here in Ibiza, it’s time we give something back.
My plan is to convert my cafe in Playa D’en Bossa into a foodbank. Foodbanks have become increasingly prevalent in the UK during the past few years. They provide a lifeline and vital support for many families and even key workers. All the food is donated by local business, farmers, and people who can afford to be generous. The foodbank is a valuable resource for locals in need who can either collect free food and other essentials and for those who are not able to travel. We will be offering a delivery service.
My team at Ibiza Villas 2000 will be redeployed along with volunteers to staff the café and help the farmers, while my maintenance team will distribute the food with the help of volunteers and the partner charities.
I believe the pandemic coming so quickly on the back of the last crisis, will have a devastating effect on the island. As foreigners in Spain, it is now our chance to give back to an island that has given us so much. We are reaching out to local people to join up and offer your time and services. WE NEED YOUR support.
This is a joint effort – we need to all join forces for a common purpose. We all need to step up!
In a perfect world, we would like to open our doors now, but the State of Emergency prevents us. We are therefore preparing the foundations now, so as soon as we are allowed to leave our houses we can open as quickly as feasibly possible.
I feel this will be a lifeline to many individuals and families this summer. Ibiza will experience a once in a lifetime downturn this summer, which will affect many people. We MUST build a safety net for those people who will suffer most. Please see below the many ways in which you can help
